Harry Potter is for many like Marmite. You either love it, or you hate it. It is something I, for one, cannot get enough of.
Even Muggles can participate in the magic. It turns out. Apple is the new Ollivanders, and they have many ways to turn your iPhone into a magic wand.
Three of them have been built into Siri and are ready to go. The rest are waiting to be programmed in your next spell lesson.
Before starting, make sure that the Hey Siri function has been enabled. This can be found in your Settings, followed by your Siri and your Search tab.
Lumos
This spell is one of my favorites. This spell will lighten the tip of the witch’s or wizard’s wand.
Your iPhone is where it all began. Your iPhone will turn on your torch by saying, Hey Siri. Lumos.
Nox
Nox is the spell that turns the light on your wand off. Harry almost gets it from his uncle when he nearly sees him reading under his duvet.
As in the movies, you can say Hey Siri. Nox. will disable the torch from your iPhone.
Accio
Accio is the magic we wish we had in our daily lives. It’s used in Harry Potter to summon objects. This would be useful if we lose our keys or the remote.
If your iPhone is locked, you can speak Hello Sir, Accio [AppName], and your iPhone will automatically open the app. You’ll need your Touch ID, Face ID or passcode to unlock it if it isn’t unlocked.
The three above are programmed into Siri. However, Siri can also be programmed with a few magic spells.
Lumos Maxima
Lumos is a powerful tool, but Lumos Maxima is a step above. Hello Siri, Lumos Maxima will produce more light from your iPhone. This trick will activate your torch and increase your brightness.
1) Go to the Shortcuts App.
2) Tap the + icon at the top right corner.
3) Search for the Set Torch action.
4) Turn it on.
5) Increase the brightness slider to maximum.
Siri will recognize what you ask by naming this command “Lumos Maxima”.
Silencio
This is something many people want in their day-to-day lives. The kids won’t go to sleep if the dog barks or the car alarm rings at the end.
It makes Harry Potter’s world quieter. The same thing happens to your iPhone. Your iPhone will automatically turn off Do Not Disturb when you say Hey Siri Silencio,
1) Go to the Shortcuts App.
2) Tap the + icon at the top right corner.
3. Search for the Set Focus icon.
4) Turn it on until the device is turned off.
Be sure to add Silencio to the shortcut. You’ll enjoy the peace as long as it is needed.
Sonorus
This spell is exactly the opposite of Silencio in Harry Potter. This works by making a sound louder, such as a person’s voice.
This shortcut is great to have on your iPhone when you need to turn up the volume or hear the music so loud that you can’t hear what you are singing.
1) Go to the Shortcuts App.
2) Tap the + icon at the top right corner.
3) Search for the Set Volume Action.
4) Increase it to 100 percent
So Siri doesn’t get confused, set the Sonorus label. You’ll enjoy louder calls and epic music, plus so much more.
