Let’s go back to basics.
Since we lost BlackBerry’s BBM, WhatsApp has been our favorite messaging app. They must be doing something right, with more than 2,000,000 users worldwide.
WhatsApp is a free chat application launched in 2009 by the company. WhatsApp is a secure way to keep your conversations private. We love that there are no ads!
WhatsApp has evolved over the years, with many new features and tricks that can make it difficult to keep up with the pace of the rest of the world.
It seemed sensible to start at the beginning and go back to basics.
Time to download
Downloading WhatsApp on your phone is a good place to begin. WhatsApp can be downloaded today, regardless of whether you have the latest iPhone, Samsung or Sony.
It’s simple if your iPhone runs iOS 9+ and Android runs Android 4.1.
1) Launch the Play Store (Android) or the App Store(iPhone).
2) Search WhatsApp and hit the download button
3) Open the app and confirm that you have the required permissions.
4) Enter your mobile phone number.
5)You will receive a text message with a verification code to use WhatsApp.
You’re done! You can import all of your contacts into WhatsApp or add them manually if you wish to remove some.
Personalize it
WhatsApp users have a personal profile that they can customize to any level.
You can include a photo, your name, and even a brief bio to tell those you contact a little more about you.
1) Select the three dots at the top-right corner.
2) Choose settings.
3) Tap your name at the top of the screen.
4)Tap on the camera icon to choose a photo.
5)Tap on the pencil icon beside the name.
6) To update your bio, click the pencil icon beside About.
Get started chatting
It’s now time to start chatting with people. You’ll feel lonely the first time you use the app. Although there won’t be any chats, it is possible to start one.
- Click the chat bubble at the bottom right.
- Choose the contact that you wish to chat with.
- Type the message at the bottom.
- Tap on the arrow icon for your message.
Your first WhatsApp message has been sent. You can send files or images to your WhatsApp conversation.
Tap the camera icon or paperclip at the bottom of your screen.
Chat in groups? Follow these steps, but tap New Group to add multiple contacts when prompted.
It’s easier to make calls
WhatsApp allows you to make phone calls and is an extremely useful feature. WhatsApp lets you make calls over the internet, not just using minutes from your monthly plan.
- Open the chat window for the person you wish to call.
- Select the phone icon at the top right corner.
Follow the same steps for group chat calls but make sure you open the group chat first. Similar steps apply to video calling. However, instead of clicking the phone icon, click the video camera icon.
